SUNDERLAND, Jul. 13, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : Italy defeated Chile by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at Roker Park in Sunderland.
Italy dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Sandro Mazzola in the 8th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Italians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Barison with just 2 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Italians second in Group 4 with 2 points. In their next game, Italy will meet group leaders USSR at Roker Park on July 16, while Chile will face North Korea.
