SUNDERLAND, Jul. 16, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : USSR defeated Italy by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at Roker Park in Sunderland.
45 minutes of play and neither the Soviets nor the Italians have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Soviet midfielder Igor Chislenko in the 57th minute.
The result put the Soviet top of Group 4 with 4 points. Italy is second with 2 points. In their last game, USSR will meet third-placed Chile at Roker Park on July 20, while Italy will face North Korea.
