USSR beats Chile to reach World Cup quarterfinals
SUNDERLAND, Jul. 20, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : USSR defeated Chile by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at Roker Park in Sunderland.
Valeriy Porkujan scored dual goals
Soviet forward Valeriy Porkujan opened the score in the 28th minute, before seeing Chile catch up in the 32nd minute thanks to Rubén Marcos. 1-1 at half time. The Soviets eventually won the game in the second period with with another goal by Porkujan with just 5 minutes remaining in regulation time.
