World Cup 1970 : Peru beats Bulgaria 3-2
LEóN, Jun. 2, 1970 (AMP) — Mexico 70 : Peru defeated Bulgaria by a score of 3-2 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday afternoon at the Estadio León.
Bulgaria had started off well by taking the lead in the 13th minute with a goal by midfielder Dinko Dermendzhiev. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Peruvians nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Gallardo '50, Chumpitaz '55 and Cubillas '73).
The result put the Peruvians top of Group 4 with 2 points. In their next game, Peru will meet Morocco at the Estadio León on June 6, while Bulgaria will face Germany.
