LEóN, Jun. 7, 1970 (AMP) — Mexico 70 : Germany defeated Bulgaria by a score of 5-2 (halftime: 2-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday at the Estadio León.
Gerd Müller scored tripple goals
Bulgaria opened the score in the score in the 12th minute thanks to Asparuh Nikodimov, before Germany regained the advantage with Libuda ('20) and Müller ('27). Leading 2-1 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Müller '52/penalty, '88 and Seeler '67).
The result put the Germans top of Group 4 with 4 points. Bulgaria is third with no points. In their last game, Germany will meet second-placed Peru at the Estadio León on June 10, while Bulgaria will face Morocco.
