World Cup 1986 : Bulgaria hold Italy to 1-1
MEXICO CITY, May. 31, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : Bulgaria tied 1-1 with Italy (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
The Italians started off well by taking the lead thanks to Italian forward Alessandro Altobelli in the 43rd minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Bulgaria with a saving goal from Bulgarian forward Nasko Sirakov in the 85th minute.
The result left both teams on top of Group A with one point. In their next game, Italy will meet Argentina at the Estadio Azteca on June 5, while Bulgaria will face South Korea.
