World Cup 1986 : South Korea and Bulgaria play to a 1-1 draw
MEXICO CITY, Jun. 5, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : South Korea tied 1-1 with Bulgaria (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario in Mexico City.
The Bulgarians started off well by taking the lead thanks to Bulgarian midfielder Plamen Getov in the 11th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by South Korea with a saving goal from Korean forward Kim Jong-boo in the 70th minute.
The result put the Bulgarians second in Group A with 2 points. South Korea is bottom with one point. In their last game, Bulgaria will meet group leaders Argentina at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario on June 10, while South Korea will face Italy.
