GENOA, Jun. 16, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Scotland defeated Sweden by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday night at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa.

Scotland dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Stuart McCall in the 10th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Scots further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Johnston on penalty with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation time.

The result put the Scot second in Group C with 2 points. Sweden is bottom with no points. In their last game, Scotland will meet group leaders Brazil at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on June 20, while Sweden will face Costa Rica.
