World Cup 1990 : Costa Rica beats Sweden 2-1 to qualify for the Round of 16
GENOA, Jun. 20, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Costa Rica defeated Sweden by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa.
Sweden had started off well by taking the lead in the 32nd minute with a goal by forward Johnny Ekström. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Costa Ricans nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Flores '75 and Medford '88).
