PASADENA, Jun. 22, 1994 (AMP) — USA 94 : The United States defeated Colombia by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday afternoon at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
The United States dominated the first half as a result of the unfortunate own goal scored by defender Andrés Escobar in the 35th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Americans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Stewart in the 52nd minute.
The result put the Americans second in Group A with 4 points. Colombia is bottom with no points. In their last game, the United States will meet third-placed Romania at the Rose Bowl on June 26, while Colombia will face Switzerland.
