World Cup 1998 : Mexico defeats South Korea 3-1
LYON, Jun. 13, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : Mexico defeated South Korea by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Stade de Gerland in Lyon.
Luis Hernández scored dual goals
South Korea had started off well by taking the lead in the 28th minute with a goal by midfielder Ha Seok-ju. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Mexicans nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Peláez '51 and Hernández '74, '84).
The result put the Mexicans top of Group E with 3 points. In their next game, Mexico will meet Belgium at the Stade de Gerland on June 20, while South Korea will face the Netherlands.
