SAINT-ÉTIENNE, Jun. 14, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : Yugoslavia defeated Iran by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Étienne.
45 minutes of play and neither the Yugoslavs nor the Iranians have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Yugoslav defender Sinisa Mihajlovic in the 72nd minute.
The result put the Yugoslav top of Group F with 3 points. In their next game, Yugoslavia will meet Germany at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on June 21, while Iran will face the United States.
