NANTES, Jun. 20, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : Croatia defeated Japan by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes.
Japan made the Croatians doubt themselves for forty-five minutes. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Croatian forward Davor Šuker in the 77th minute.
The result put the Croatians top of Group H with 6 points. Japan is bottom with no points. In their last game, Croatia will meet second-placed Argentina at the Stade de la Beaujoire on June 26, while Japan will face Jamaica.
