PARIS, Jun. 21, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : Argentina defeated Jamaica by a big score of 5-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Parc des Princes in Paris.
Gabriel Batistuta scored tripple goals
Argentina dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Ariel Ortega in the 31st minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Argentines further widened their lead in the second period by scoring four times (Ortega '55 and Batistuta '73, '78, '83/penalty).
The result put the Argentine top of Group H with 6 points. Jamaica is bottom with no points. In their last game, Argentina will meet second-placed Croatia at the Parc des Princes on June 26, while Jamaica will face Japan.
