BUSAN, Jun. 4, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : South Korea defeated Poland by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday night at the Asiad Main Stadium in Busan.
South Korea dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Hwang Sun-hong in the 26th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Koreans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Sang-chul in the 53rd minute.
The result put the Koreans top of Group D with 3 points. In their next game, South Korea will meet the United States at the Asiad Main Stadium on June 10, while Poland will face Portugal.
