DAEGU, Jun. 10, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : South Korea tied 1-1 with the United States (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday afternoon at the Daegu World Cup Stadium.
The Americans started off well by taking the lead thanks to American forward Clint Mathis in the 24th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by South Korea with a saving goal from Korean forward Ahn Jung-hwan in the 78th minute.
The result put the Koreans top of Group D with 4 points. USA is second with 4 points. In their last game, South Korea will meet third-placed Portugal at the Daegu World Cup Stadium on June 14, while the United States will face Poland.
