JEONJU, Jun. 10, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Portugal defeated Poland by a big score of 4-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday night at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium.
Pauleta scored tripple goals
Portugal dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Pauleta in the 14th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Portugueses further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Pauleta '65, '77 and Costa '88).
The result put the Portuguese third in Group D with 3 points. Poland is bottom with no points. In their last game, Portugal will meet group leaders South Korea at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium on June 14, while Poland will face the United States.
