SAPPORO, Jun. 1, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Germany defeated Saudi Arabia by a big score of 8-0 (halftime: 4-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday night at the Sapporo Dome.
Miroslav Klose scored tripple goals
Germany dominated the first half thanks to goals from Klose ('20, '25), Ballack ('40) and Jancker ('45). Leading 4-0 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring four times (Klose '70, Linke '73, Bierhoff '84 and Schneider '90).
The result put the Germans top of Group E with 3 points. In their next game, Germany will meet second-placed Ireland at the Sapporo Dome on June 5, while Saudi Arabia will face Cameroon.
