KASHIMA, Jun. 5, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Germany tied 1-1 with Ireland (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Kashima Soccer Stadium.
The Germans started off well by taking the lead thanks to German forward Miroslav Klose in the 19th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Ireland with a saving goal from Irish forward Robbie Keane in the 90th minute.
The result put the Germans top of Group E with 4 points. Ireland is second with 2 points. In their last game, Germany will meet third-placed Cameroon at the Kashima Soccer Stadium on June 11, while Ireland will face Saudi Arabia.
