World Cup 2002 : Ireland and Cameroon play to a 1-1 draw

NIIGATA, Jun. 1, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Ireland tied 1-1 with Cameroon (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Niigata Stadium.

The Cameroonians started off well by taking the lead thanks to Cameroonian forward Patrick M'Boma in the 39th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Ireland with a saving goal from Irish midfielder Matt Holland in the 52nd minute.

The result left both teams on top of Group E with one point. In their next game, Cameroon will meet Saudi Arabia at the Niigata Stadium on June 6, while Ireland will face Germany.
