GELSENKIRCHEN, Jun. 9, 2006 (AMP) — Germany 2006 : Ecuador defeated Poland by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday night at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen.
Ecuador dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Carlos Tenorio in the 24th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Ecuadorians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Delgado with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Ecuadorians second in Group A with 3 points. In their next game, Ecuador will meet third-placed Costa Rica at the Arena AufSchalke on June 15, while Poland will face Germany.
