HAMBURG, Jun. 15, 2006 (AMP) — Germany 2006 : Ecuador defeated Costa Rica by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.
Ecuador dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Carlos Tenorio in the 8th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Ecuadorians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Delgado '54 and Kaviedes '90).
The result put the Ecuadorians top of Group A with 6 points. Costa Rica is bottom with no points. In their last game, Ecuador will meet second-placed Germany at the Volksparkstadion on June 20, while Costa Rica will face Poland.
