NATAL, Jun. 16, 2014 (AMP) — Brazil 2014 : The United States defeated Ghana by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday night at the Arena das Dunas in Natal.
The United States dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Clint Dempsey in the 1st minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Americans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Brooks with just 4 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Americans second in Group G with 3 points. In their next game, the United States will meet Portugal at the Arena das Dunas on June 22, while Ghana will face Germany.
