World Cup 2014 : USA and Portugal play out 2-2 draw
MANAUS, Jun. 22, 2014 (AMP) — Brazil 2014 : The United States tied 2-2 with Portugal (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday night at the Arena da Amazonia in Manaus.
The Portugueses started off well by taking the lead thanks to Portuguese midfielder Nani in the 5th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, and despite Varela goal ('90) in the second period, they could not prevent a comeback by the United States with goals by Jermaine Jones ('64) and Clint Dempsey ('81).
The result put the Americans second in Group G with 4 points. Portugal is bottom with one point. In their last game, the United States will meet group leaders Germany at the Arena da Amazonia on June 26, while Portugal will face Ghana.
