Championship (Week 26) : Newcastle defeats Brentford 2-1
ENGLAND, Jan. 14, 2017 (AMP) — Championship / Match day 26: After losing 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers on January 2, the Magpies bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Brentford this Saturday.
Newcastle dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Dwight Gayle in the 20th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Magpies further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Murphy in the 79th minute.
Newcastle United climbed to first place with 55 points from 26 games, one point ahead of runner-up Brighton and Hove Albion FC, which has a game in hand.
