Copa América 2016 : Mexico beats Uruguay 3-1
GLENDALE, Jun. 5, 2016 (AMP) — Centenario : Mexico defeated Uruguay by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a Copa América group stage game on Sunday night at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
Mexico dominated the first half as a result of the unfortunate own goal scored by midfielder Álvaro Pereira in the 4th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Mexicans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Márquez '85 and Herrera '90).
The result put the Mexicans top of Group C with 3 points. In their next game, Mexico will meet third-placed Jamaica at the University of Phoenix Stadium on June 9, while Uruguay will face Venezuela.
