World Cup 1950 : Uruguay defeats Sweden 3-2
SãO PAULO, Jul. 13, 1950 (AMP) — Brazil 50 : Uruguay defeated Sweden by a score of 3-2 (halftime: 1-2), in a World Cup second round game (Final Round Group) on Thursday afternoon at the Pacaembu Stadium.
Oscar Míguez scored dual goals
Sweden had started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Palmér ('5) and Sundqvist ('40), while Uruguay only scored once Ghiggia ('39). Trailing 2-1 at half time, the Uruguayans nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Míguez '77, '85).
The result put the Uruguayans second in the group with 3 points. Sweden is bottom with no points. In their last game, Uruguay will meet group leaders Brazil at the Pacaembu Stadium on July 16, while Sweden will face Spain.
