PORTO ALEGRE, Jun. 28, 1950 (AMP) — Brazil 50 : Yugoslavia defeated Mexico by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 2-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Pacaembu Stadium in Porto Alegre.
Željko Čajkovski scored dual goals
Yugoslavia dominated the first half thanks to goals from Bobek ('19) and Čajkovski ('22). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Yugoslavs further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Čajkovski '62 and Tomašević '81).
The result put the Yugoslav top of Group 1 with 4 points. Mexico is bottom with no points. In their last game, Yugoslavia will meet second-placed Brazil at the Pacaembu Stadium on July 1, while Mexico will face Switzerland.
