MARSEILLE, Jun. 12, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : France defeated South Africa by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday night at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille.
France dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Christophe Dugarry in the 36th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Frenchs further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Issa '77/own and Henry '90).
The result put the French top of Group C with 3 points. In their next game, France will meet third-placed Saudi Arabia at the Stade Vélodrome on June 18, while South Africa will face Denmark.
