World Cup 1998 : South Africa hold Denmark to 1-1
TOULOUSE, Jun. 18, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : South Africa tied 1-1 with Denmark (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the Toulouse Stadium.
The Danes started off well by taking the lead thanks to Danish midfielder Allan Nielsen in the 12th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by South Africa with a saving goal from South African forward Benni McCarthy in the 51st minute.
The result put the Dane top of Group C with 4 points. South Africa is third with one point. In their last game, Denmark will meet second-placed France at the Toulouse Stadium on June 24, while South Africa will face Saudi Arabia.
