AUCKLAND, Jun. 8, 2001 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 (Oceania Qualifiers) : New Zealand defeated the Cook islands by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup on Friday afternoon.

The result put the New Zealander second in Group 2 with 6 points. The Cook islands is bottom with no points. In their next game, New Zealand will meet group leaders the Solomon Islands on June 11, while the Cook islands will face Tahiti.
